  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 large egg room temperature
  • 1 tbsp red food coloring
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
For the Filling

  • 1 tbsp cinnamon
For the Frosting
  • 1/2 cup cream cheese (softened)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together buttermilk, melted butter, egg, food coloring, and vanilla until smooth.
  4. Combine the wet and dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms.
Rolling and Rising
  1. Roll the dough out into a rectangle. Spread softened butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon evenly on top.
  2. Roll the dough tightly into a log and cut into rolls.
  3. Place rolls in the greased baking dish and let rise for 30 minutes.
Baking
  1. Bake for 25-30 minutes until cooked through.
Frosting
  1. For the frosting, mix cream cheese, powdered sugar, and milk until smooth, then spread over warm rolls before serving.

Notes

Use room temperature ingredients for a smoother batter. Adjust the amount of cocoa if you prefer less chocolate flavor. Letting the dough rise is crucial for fluffiness.
