Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 6-8 pieces apples, quartered A mix of sweet and tart apples is recommended.
  • 1 piece orange, quartered No need to peel.
  • 1 cup sugar Optional, adjust according to taste.
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon For added warmth and flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon whole cloves To enhance the spiciness.
  • 1 teaspoon allspice For an additional layer of flavor.
  • 10 cups water To help simmer the ingredients.
  • 1/2 piece lemon, juiced Optional, adds a touch of acidity.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large pot or Dutch oven, combine the quartered apples, orange, sugar (if using), cinnamon, cloves, allspice, and water.
  2. Bring the mixture to a boil over high heat.
  3. Reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 2 hours, mashing the apples with a potato masher occasionally to release their juices.
  4. After 2 hours, strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth into another pot or pitcher to remove solids.
  5. Serve warm, garnished with a cinnamon stick if desired, or allow to cool and refrigerate.

Notes

Store leftover cider in an airtight container in the fridge for about a week. Stir before pouring to mix the ingredients.
