Ingredients

Meat mixture
  • 1 pound ground beef or sausage You can use turkey or chicken as alternatives.
  • 1 pound ground pork sausage
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese You can experiment with other cheeses like provolone or pepper jack.
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper Add crushed red pepper for extra spice.
Bread
  • 1 package cocktail rye bread Any small bread or cracker can work.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef or sausage until browned. Don’t forget to drain the excess fat!
  2. Stir in the cream of mushroom soup, cheddar cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper until everything’s well mixed.
  3. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  4. Spread a slice of cocktail rye bread on a baking sheet and top each with the meat mixture.
Cooking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for about 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  2. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for 3-5 days in an airtight container. For freezing, they’ll stay good for about 2-3 months. Reheat in the oven to maintain cheesiness.
