  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar Adjust to taste.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon Optional: Add a pinch of nutmeg for variation.
  • 1 pinch salt
For the French Toast
  • 1 loaf Brioche or French bread, cut into thick slices Use thick, good quality bread for the best texture.
  • Sugar for caramelizing on top Don't skimp for a nice crunchy crust.
  • Butter for greasing the baking dish

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish with butter.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, heavy cream, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt.
  3. Arrange the bread slices in the baking dish, overlapping them slightly.
  4. Pour the custard mixture over the bread, ensuring all slices are soaked.
  5. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or overnight for best results.
Baking
  1. Bake uncovered for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden and the custard is set.
  2. Remove from the oven and sprinkle a thin layer of sugar on top.
  3. Using a kitchen torch, caramelize the sugar until it forms a crispy, golden crust.
  4. Allow to cool slightly, then serve warm.

Notes

Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for about 3 days. Reheat in the oven until warm. For freezing, wrap tightly in cling film and keep for up to 2 months.
