  • 1 loaf French bread Use day-old bread for better soaking.
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup heavy cream Can be substituted with half-and-half.
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar Plus additional sugar for caramelizing.
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter For greasing the baking dish.

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Slice the French bread into thick slices and place them in a greased baking dish.
  3. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, milk, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until well combined.
  4. Pour the egg mixture over the bread slices, ensuring they are well soaked.
  5. Cover and let it sit in the fridge for at least 30 minutes or overnight.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden and custardy.
  2. Once baked, sprinkle sugar over the top and use a kitchen torch to caramelize the sugar until golden and crunchy.
  3. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

Store leftovers in the fridge for 3-4 days. Reheat in the oven at 350°F until warmed through. You can assemble it a day in advance and refrigerate.
