Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup apple cider
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
Coating
  • 1 cup cinnamon sugar for coating

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) if baking. Grease a donut pan. If frying, heat oil in a deep pot to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, combine apple cider, melted butter, and egg. Mix this into the dry ingredients until just combined.
Cooking
  1. For baked donuts, fill each mold in the donut pan and bake for 10-12 minutes.
  2. For fried donuts, drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil and fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes on each side.
  3. Remove donuts and coat them in cinnamon sugar while they are still warm.
Serving
  1. Serve with a hot cup of apple cider or coffee for the ultimate autumn experience.

Notes

Don’t overmix the batter. Customize the spices to your liking and consider different coatings like powdered sugar.
